After recounting her well-documented snub by NASA when she was just a small girl, Hillary Clinton has continued to open up about the sexism that has plagued her throughout her life. And it seems the most painful refusal she ever received was from none other than World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the one organization she had believed as committed to truth and realism as Clinton herself.
“I think it stung so badly because I thought we shared the same values,” she said to a town hall crowd of at least a million people (who immediately stood and clapped). “If the WWE wouldn’t accept me just because I was female, would I ever be able to claw and bite my way to the top in any industry? I worried that my life was over already at the age of 15.
“In 1981,” she quickly added.
Clinton was even able to provide documentation of the painful exchange, in the form of an email dated February 29, 1981.
The WWE responded to our request for comment by pointing out that they did not exist under their current name until 2002, the internet had not yet been invented by Al Gore when the email was alleged to have been sent, and that anybody who knows how to divide by 4 knows that 1981 was not a leap year.
“Typical gaslighting by another male-led industry,” Hillary Tweeted after the WWE’s claim had gone public.
“They said I can’t do math because I’m a woman.”
